We Watched the Train
We Watched the Train
I held you in my arms as we watched the train go by
Ooohs and ahhhs escaped your tiny mouth
Single finger raised towards the sky
As if summoning more trains to the track
The first train we saw together
Shared over an emergency feeding
In the backseat of a blue store's parking lot on the west side
Screams of hunger and thirst were the only sounds escaping your tiny mouth then
Today we watched the train
Cool morning breeze blowing through our hair
Rumbling flatbed cars rolling past at a steady pace
Urgency vanished as did our agenda
