Life During COVID-19: Day 50
March 14, 2020: This morning I went to Safeway to buy the groceries Walmart was unable to provide. I purchased three cans of spam, a small bag of brown rice, some butter and pasta. Afterwards, I was contemplating going for a run because this is perfect weather to do so. The sky is overcast and the air is cool. Plus hardly anyone is out. However I settled for running back and forth to my car to unload groceries instead. Once I got into the apartment and put away the groceries I cooked breakfast for us. We had pan-fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, chicken and longanisa, a sweet Filipino sausage. At first I was hesitant to purchase longanisa from Seafood City as it’s not something I ate as a kid. We were more of a Jimmy Dean type of family. Turns out this sausage is definitely not something I’ll be buying again. It’s too sweet for my tastes.
With the kitchen cleaned up and food put away, it was time to continue playing a game I started months ago. Since my son was born I don’t have as much time to play games anymore as his welfare is my main priority. Nowadays my toddler likes to climb all over me, the couch, and the dining room chairs which prohibits my ability to focus on playing a game for more than a few minutes at a time. Today I gave myself permission to allocate a few moments to play through at least two episodes of season 2 of Batman: The Enemy Within. What I like most about this game is that the story changes with each decision the player makes. This creates a fairly engaging storyline and the pacing is just right for me. Plus, I grew up watching Batman the Animated Series, so it brings me back to happier days. With today’s unusual current events it is more important than ever to keep our spirits up during an abnormally lonely time.
It’s been 50 days since coronavirus arrived in California. Social gatherings have been limited to 250 people, sporting events are canceled and even Disneyland is closed. Aside from going outdoors to exercise or for essential trips to the grocery stores, we don’t have many options remaining but to stay in our homes for the safety of our family and others.
