Unlocked Achievements and Other Happy-Happy Joy-Joys

Unlocked Achievements and Other Happy-Happy Joy-Joys

Happy Monday, fellow nerds!

My favorite time of the year, Fall 2016, has begun (PRAISE THE SUN)!

Despite it being Fall, our community continues to rise towards milestones & achievements that bring this nerd into joyful tears. True story!

This latest newsletter will not just be that. It will be testament to where we’re going & why it’s more important than ever that we all support our local Sacramento Developers in any capacity we realistically can!

Game Development takes a physical & emotional toll on those truly in this for the passion & drive to be more than they were yesterday.

We will be questioned on our capabilities, from others, from ourselves. We will be doubted on our reasons, from others, from ourselves. We will be told we can’t. We will be told we shouldn’t.

Not on my watch. Not in our Chapter.

We must continue to be one another’s foundation. We must continue to be the most awesome Co-Op/LAN party in existence! Because one cannot just rely on a 4 or 5-star online review alone…

Damn, I think a future LAN party Meetup event is in store one day soon…who’s down?

Through our trials, through our doubts, through our days…let us continue to progress & celebrate all we achieve. To become a success story…

IGDA Sacramento Meetup Events for October 2016:

Progressive Game Jam 3.4
Saturday, October 29th, 2016, 11am to 4pm

Our teams continue to progress forward in their respective game projects, in preparation for our upcoming Sac Indie Arcade for 2017! If you’re interested in being a part of one of the current teams, or if you want to simply see how we roll, click on the link above for more details!

Vampire Ball 2016 (A 21 & OVER ONLY EVENT!)
Saturday, October 29th, 2016, 8pm to 130am

In what can only be described as our most unique venue & partnership yet, we’ve been asked to align with Shannon McCabe & her long running Vampire Ball event on Halloween weekend! The theme for Vampire Ball 2016 is the very awesome & classic 80s Vampire flick, The Lost Boys! In the movie, for those who recall, there was a scene which filmed the boardwalk in Santa Clara & an arcade called “The Midway”. We’ve been asked to represent “The Midway” arcade for this venue. Ridiculously cool is an understatement! More details on the link above!

UNLOCKED ACHIEVEMENTS & OTHER HAPPY-HAPPY JOY-JOYS!

KICKSTART OUR HEART (AGAIN)!
The Kickstarter campaigns continue with our very own, Jeff LaFlam, Board Game Developer & Advisor for our Chapter, who has started his own campaign for Zomburbs! This was another great concept demoed at Sac Indie Arcade 2016! And what a joy it is to see this concept now blossom into something so cool in our community! Go support the cause right here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1217383590/zomburbs

A ROCKTASTIC ANNOUNCEMENT!
Rocktastic Games, led by fantastic Chapter member & Starbucks Traveler Delivery extraordinaire William Tan, releases their super fun 1st title, Rogue Continuum, on Steam TOMORROW, October 4th, 2016! NERD RAWR! Please check out their announcement & details how to get the game here: http://steamcommunity.com/games/357700/announcements/

VOLUNTEER OS X DEV NEEDED FOR OPEN SOURCE HUGS & ATTENTION!
Bill Kendrick, the Uber Nerd Overlord behind the spectacular ATARI PARTY, is in need of a volunteer OS X Developer to provide support for an Open Source Kids drawing program & website called Tux Paint!

Tux Paint uses the Simple DirectMedia Layer library (libSDL), an open source, cross-platform layer that sits between a game or other program (like Tux Paint) and the operating system & GUI (X-Window or frame buffer on Linux, [anything] on Windows, Coco on Mac OS X, etc.)

If what I just typed made you smile in programmer & developer glee & you want to be a part of this really cool endeavor, please email Bill: nbs at sonic dot net

FINALLY, A THANK YOU…
To Briana, for being the voice of the Chapter online & more! The gratitude from us all & myself know no bounds. It will never be forgotten.

To Nate, for stepping up to take a greater role within our Chapter and being the Progressive Game Jam Project Manager throughout, so far!

To all others that haven’t given up in their respective dreams, thank you. Don’t stop now!

As always, our goal is to provide quality events that will help each of you thrive in your personal & professional development.

Although there is no cost to be a part of our Meetup group (EVER!), there are benefits for professionals and students to become members of IGDA. Read more here: https://www.igda.org/?page=benefits.

Did you know a portion of member dues are invested back to local chapters? Should you choose to become an official IGDA member, this will help us continue to host quality and diverse game development events.

As always, we want to know what YOU want to see in an upcoming IGDA Sacramento event! Let us know which past sessions you've liked, what you didn’t, what you want to learn and what events you’d like to see happen!

GAME ON, SACRAMENTO!

Cheers,

Gabriel G. - Founder & Chair
Briana A. – Vice Chair
